Celebrating Food, Family and Farming during Scotland Food & Drink Fortnight

Fergus and Alison Younger run a small 300 acre family farm with the help of their three young children, Fergus’ mum and friends. They are located 10 minutes by car from Stirling and 20 minutes from the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park in central Scotland. On the farm they are proud to care sustainably for their animals and the environment so they can grow the very best in fresh, local produce.

Old Leckie Farm get our vote today for the Tasting Scotland Gourmet Journeys & Events #ScotFoodFort20 ‘Local Legend’ crown because during lock-down:

  • They made sure customers could continue to ‘Eat Old Leckie’. (Slow grown Highland Beef, Outdoor reared pork and award winning free range eggs all year round, along with their mixed salad bags and new potatoes, when in season).
  • Juggling farming, taking orders with many new customers due to the pandemic and delivering orders AND home-schooling three children I’m sure would have seen even the most patient of us reaching for the nearest exit….fast.
  • In amongst all that, they pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and took part (brilliantly I must add) in ‘Lambathon’ and ‘Welcome to My Farm’ – the Facebook live ‘Go Rural’ Farm Tours that swept the nation from spring to early summer. I also have no idea how many lambs and calves were born over that period either, but it was quite a few!
  • And finally, because I really enjoyed reading Alison’s weekly e-mail! Providing details of what’s available to order from the farm shop on a weekly basis, they were quite literally a breath of fresh air and some light at the end of a long lock-down tunnel. Alison’s a great story-teller and I found myself often being transported virtually onto the farm as she provided an update on the weekly goings-on, what stage the animals and produce is at, and a few funnies usually involving Fergus!

I’m glad to see they are now back to welcoming visitors to their farm as guests in their 5 star self catering accommodation, arranging their farm experience tours and continuing to serve up their award winning produce. Well done ‘The Younger Family (and friends)!’

We are looking forward to working with the Younger family and offering something where fresh air, beautiful surroundings and great food are in the mix. For more information get in touch with me directly   brenda@tastingscotland.com
