Tales and Tastings of Scotland

What does it take to create an authentic tasting event in Scotland? It’s hard to think of a better setting to deliver an informal tasting journey, exploring the fascinating story of Scotland’s iconic cuisine, than in a castle-like historic house dating back to the 15th Century. Luckily for me the beautiful Pitfirrane House; home of the Halkett family in Dunfermline, was the location chosen by the Rotary Club of West Fife for their recent social gathering. With an incredible footfall of between 6-10,000 people per week, musicians plucking or drumming out tunes aplenty and of course the most incredible location with Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop, Edinburgh Farmers' Market is most definitely our favourite place to start.  Today we tried the 2 new oils from cold pressed rapeseed oil experts Summer Harvest. The white truffle and the smoked ones are well worth seeking out. (We'll ...

Green with anticipation for the King of Veg

So it’s all been going off in England in a very green and majestic way. That’s to say the Asparagus season has well and truly started with those ‘King of Veg’ spears going down very, very well. Despite a very long winter both north and south of the border the English season started as is customary on St George’s day on 23rd April. I have always loved this time of year, a time when the nights are stretching, the tulips positively thriving and Scottish asparagus most definitely arriving. As was the case in 2012 we may be a little behind with another cold and wet start to the year, but we are nearly there and not long now before long we should ...
